Mohile Parikh Center

The Mohile Parikh Center (MPC), Mumbai, is one of the leading cultural centers in India devoted to the Arts. Its range of activities was spearheaded in 1990 by the founding of the Mohile Parikh Center for the Visual Arts (MPCVA) which has established itself as an integral part of the National Centre for Performing Arts.

With its commitment to creating a lively and informed community that is receptive to the arts, the MPCVA adds a vital dimension to the activities of the NCPA. Founded as a public charitable trust by Shaila J. Parikh (an art lover, pedagogue and writer) the MPCVA offers a variety of art education modules which address the trends and concerns of contemporary society.

In April 1997, the MPC established the Architecture Forum, to foster a spirit of inquiry and introspection amongst architects, students of architecture, and citizens at large.
In October 2004, the Architecture Forum of the MPC expanded its horizons to form the Mohile Parikh Center for the Contemporary (MPCC). The MPCC seeks to review and reconstruct Indian contemporary culture through dynamic, open, ever-changing process that reflect the complex relations between modernization, globalization, local traditions and the environment.

Over the years the MPC’s numerous activities have become an important part of the city’s cultural calendar. With a South Asia focus and global scope, the MPC organizes lectures, panel discussions, audio-visual presentations, seminars, workshops, short courses, film screenings and international conferences, providing an all-embracing and multi-disciplinary platform. The Center collaborates with various organisations, fostering cultural exchanges both nationally and internationally as well as addressing issues specific to the city of Mumbai.

A complete list of the events, both past and present, is available on the MPC website.
