NCPA Quarterly Journal

The NCPA Quarterly Journal was created to ‘develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and practice of the arts' among those with a serious interest in culture.

The first Quarterly came out in September 1972 and publication continued until March 1988, with each issue featuring authoritative and wide-ranging articles about the arts by distinguished figures from India and abroad.

Although the Quarterly is no longer published, its legacy continues as an important archive held by the NCPA, documenting and exploring cultural trends in all areas of the performing arts and cinema. It includes exclusive articles such as Satyajit Ray’s description of the making of the film BALA; Raja Ramannna’s proposition of a new theatre of consonance; and theatre director Peter Brook discussing the role of masks in Eastern and Western performing traditions.

Each issue also features interviews with influential cultural figures, such as the great tamasha exponent, Dadu Indurikar, the renowned violinist Yehudi Menuhin, and the expert American acoustician Cyril Harris.

The NCPA Quarterly Journal can be accessed by members of the public by contacting the NCPA Library Articles are fully indexed.
