Rhythm and melody are the two pillars on which the sonic architecture of Indian music is built. In India, most musical recitals veer around melody. Nonetheless, there are special soirees in which percussion instruments assume centrestage. Led by maestro Zakir Hussain, this presentation combines rhythmic elements from North and South Indian music, with the metrical structures of various Western and African drums. As twilight advances towards night, the performers come together in a joint creative encounter, blending traditional and contemporary expressions and leaving a trail of myriad magical patterns.
